The best tip is always consistency! I use controlled, identical lighting setups and colour profiles for every dish. This ensures that whether you have 10 items or 100, the final images look unified, professional, and consistent across your entire menu.
For social media stories, your phone is fine! For commercial use, always hire a pro. My quick phone tip? Find soft, natural window light and shoot from a high angle (the ‘flat lay’) to minimise unwanted shadows and background clutter.
Planning is the number one budget-saver! Have a clear, final shot list and prep every prop and ingredient before the photographer arrives. Less downtime on set means less time spent overall, saving you money without compromising quality.
I eliminate those worries entirely! I control every light source to create flattering, intentional shadows that add depth and dimension. If you’re shooting at your premises, the best tip is to use one single light source (like a window) and use a white card to gently bounce light back into the shadows. Pay attention to clouds covering the sun and changing how it looks!
Negative space (empty space) is your friend! It gives the product room to breathe and, crucially, gives you space to add text, logos, and graphics for ads. A pro always composes with the final advertising layout in mind.
I guarantee colour accuracy by using professional colour calibration tools and consistent colour profiles from capture to final edit. This is one of the most vital food photography tips for advertising: ensuring the color is true to life prevents customer complaints and keeps your advertising legally compliant.
My work is tailored specifically for commercial goals. If you have a project in mind, let’s discuss how my on-location expertise can guarantee your next shoot is a success.
